All classes will be held at the American River Ranch (2140 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova)

Join Candis and her team in learning the basics of Western Herbology while integrating it with the systems of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine. This six month course will include medicine-making, plant ID, how to treat acute ailments, use of tonic herbs and food for strengthening vitality, as well as how to harvest local herbs for medicine. You will learn about your own constitutional needs and ways to balance yourself for better health and wellbeing. This program will include herb walks around the farm and the American River. There will be lots of tasting, smelling, and hands-on experience with the herbs!

Intermediate Herbal Studies Program 2017 – Creating the Community Herbalist

This six month program integrates Ayurveda, Chinese and Western herbalism. It is designed for those who have the basics of Herbology and want to deepen their understanding of Herbalism and applying it in a clinical setting.

This course is for those who have completed Candis' Beginners Program or its equivalent with another school or teacher.*

The intermediate curriculum continues to explore Ayurvedic and Chinese healing systems in greater depth and will cover the following topics:

• Digestive Problems (such as GERD, IBS and other inflammatory conditions of the digestive tract)
• Diabetes Type II: Prevention and Control
• Nervous Debility and Exhaustion and How to Rebuild Vitality
• Formulation
• Tongue Diagnosis
• Plant ID and Medicine Preparations
• Harvesting Herbs (leaves, roots, berries, bark)

So often we hear people talk about cleansing and cleaning out sludge from their system. But what about strengthening and revitalization therapies so that our bodies, with their innate wisdom, can be stronger, so that all the processes it does are enhanced! We will go over what Building herbs and foods are. We will discuss the different types of Ginsengs and demystify them. Other herbs will include astragalus, ashwagandha, bee pollen, goji berries, gynostemma, and many other rejuvenating herbs that can be taken in tea, as honey pastes, soups and pills.

Candis will be highlighting herbs to enhance your health during the winter season. We will focus on herbal teas, soups enhanced with herbs, herbal honeys, poultices, foot baths, and other applications. This class is very experiential, and there will be lots of sampling and making of herbal healing medicines. We will talk about herbs such as astragalus, codonopsis, goji berries, cinnamon, cardamom, garlic and more..

Come and join Candis for a fascinating herb walk in the American River Parkway. Meet at Soil Born Farms American River Ranch under the oaks near the farm stand. Registration will begin at 10:15 We will walk around the Farm and then take the trails to the American River identifying plants during this easy walk. We will ID and discuss over 25 plants for medicine and food. Please wear walking shoes and a hat. Bring a water bottle, notebook and a snack. You can purchase scones and cookies at the farm stand if you prefer. Candis will provide a handout for the class. Due to the popularity of this event we are offering the walk on two Saturdays this season (June 4 & June 11) but they fill up fast so register early!

High Sierra Herb Walks 2016

Join Candis for this all day event identifying medicinal herbs in the High Country. We will be seeing at least 30 different medicinal plant and discussing their use and preparations. We will stop for lunch along the lake.
This hike is not for anyone who has knee or back problems, elevation sensitivity, heart conditions, severely impaired vision, high blood pressure or anything else that might cause problems when hiking over 8000'. You will need to bring a hat, sunscreen, hiking shoes, lunch, water, snacks, writing pad. I will be giving a very extensive handout to the participants
